ICAI UAE Corporate Tax Exam: Format, Eligibility and Study Plan

Preparing for the ICAI UAE Corporate Tax assessment involves more than remembering a tax rate. You need to identify the taxpayer, recognise the applicable regime, apply the conditions and then calculate the result. A residence question, a Free Zone question and a transfer-pricing documentation question may all concern the same business while requiring different tests.

This guide explains the assessment evidence retained for the ICAI Certificate Course on UAE Corporate Tax and a practical way to organise revision. Exams Academy provides independent preparation; official admission, training, assessment registration and certification remain with ICAI.

ICAI UAE Corporate Tax eligibility and assessment arrangements

The material concerns UAE taxation, alongside international tax and transfer pricing. ICAI is the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, but the location of the professional body does not change the jurisdiction being studied.

Eligibility needs separate attention. The retained ICAI course details require CA Final completion and an ICAI membership number. They also describe official attendance and eligibility requirements before assessment. Buying a third-party preparation course does not establish those conditions.

The same details describe an online assessment through ICAI’s Digital Learning Hub, or DLH. Candidates should use their own batch and sitting notices for registration windows and current technical instructions. An online delivery description is not a promise that a candidate can choose any date or bypass the official process.

Before planning revision, confirm three things: that you meet the official eligibility rules, that you know how to register for your sitting, and that you have the applicable assessment instructions. Keep the official programme and your supplementary preparation purchase as separate arrangements.

Understand the ICAI UAE Corporate Tax mixed-mark format

The retained ICAI background material specifies 50 one-mark questions and 25 two-mark questions. That gives 75 multiple-choice questions and 100 available marks. The retained ICAI FAQ describes a two-hour assessment, a 50-out-of-100 pass standard and DLH delivery; the course details state that there is no negative marking. Confirm the instructions issued for your own sitting if they differ.

The distinction between questions and marks matters. Answering 25 two-mark questions correctly earns 50 marks. Answering 25 one-mark questions correctly earns 25 marks. A result calculated only from the number of correct answers can therefore misrepresent performance.

For practice, review both accuracy and the marks available on missed questions. A two-mark question may require connecting conditions or following a calculation, but do not assume that every lengthy question is worth two marks. Read the mark shown and respond to the facts given.

Here is a timing example, rather than an official allocation: reserve 15 minutes for review and use 105 minutes for the first pass. That averages 1.4 minutes per question. Some direct distinctions will take less time, leaving more for calculations. If both timed and untimed accuracy are low, revisit the rule before treating the problem as speed alone.

Chapter 1: An Overview of UAE Corporate Tax and International Taxation

Why a corporate-tax system needs an international framework

UAE corporate tax sits within a wider system for taxing cross-border business. The policy background includes transparency, cooperation between tax authorities and the prevention of artificial profit shifting. A business may organise genuine commercial activity across several countries, but an arrangement that assigns profits to a location with little relevant activity raises a different question: whether the reported outcome reflects the economic substance. BEPS addresses gaps and mismatches that can produce that result. It is not a rule that every cross-border transaction is abusive.

The four minimum-standard areas identified in the source are harmful tax practices, treaty abuse, country-by-country reporting and dispute res…

Build the UAE Corporate Tax framework before memorising figures

The ICAI syllabus has 22 teaching sessions across 11 days. The background material has 20 study chapters. These are two ways of organising the subject, so do not assume that Session 7 is the same topic as Chapter 7 or that a teaching-session number is an exam weighting.

Start by identifying the person and the connection to the UAE. Then consider residence, permanent establishment, exemption status and any relevant Free Zone rules. Only after that should you determine the income scope, deductions, reliefs, credits and final liability.

A useful revision note records the actor, trigger, conditions and consequence. For a deadline, add the starting event and whether the unit is months, calendar days or Business Days. For a threshold, record whether equality qualifies and which revenue, period or ownership rights the rule measures.

This method helps prevent familiar mistakes: applying an individual’s business-turnover rule to a company, using a group ownership percentage for the wrong relief, or treating a filing deadline as the same clock as a registration deadline. Similar numbers do not establish identical rules.

Practise calculations with the conditions attached

Use worked examples in stages. First classify the regime and identify the relevant inputs. Next write the formula. Substitute the figures, complete the arithmetic and check whether a cap, floor or eligibility condition changes the result.

For an ordinary taxable company, assume final Taxable Income of AED 900,000 after all relevant adjustments and reliefs. Applying the ordinary AED 375,000 zero-rate band leaves AED 525,000 at 9%, producing AED 47,250. This illustration does not establish the treatment of every Free Zone Person or a group subject to separate top-up-tax rules. The ordinary rates are set out in the retained UAE Corporate Tax law.

Next vary one input or condition. Does the question give accounting profit or final Taxable Income? Has it already deducted an expense that needs adjustment? Is a loss eligible and within its utilisation cap? Changing the facts is more useful than memorising the answer to one example.

For transfer pricing, name the denominator before calculating a percentage. A mark-up on cost and a margin on sales are different measures. Keep the method, tested party, comparability evidence and financial base connected to the transaction being analysed.

Keep assessment scope and later tax updates separate

Tax material can change after a workbook is published. Retain the source identity and check official Ministry of Finance and Federal Tax Authority updates. At the same time, do not assume that every later legal development is automatically examinable in a particular ICAI sitting.

Exams Academy identifies later official tax updates separately from the base material. The legal cut-off for an individual sitting has not been confirmed in the retained assessment sources. Your ICAI sitting notice is therefore an essential check; neither a preparation provider nor an old workbook date should be used to invent that cut-off.

When reviewing a changed rule, update the teaching, recall prompt, reference, practice answer and tutor explanation together. Otherwise, a learner can meet an old threshold on a flashcard and a newer one in a mock without understanding the difference.

Use mock results to choose the next revision task

The Exams Academy preparation course includes 375 practice questions across five mock exams, with 300 original questions in the four primary papers and a balanced fifth mixed paper. Each full mock follows the 75-question, 100-mark, 120-minute structure. The toolkit also includes 20 chapter summaries, active recall cards, searchable tax references and worked calculations.

After a paper, group mistakes by cause: missing knowledge, a missed condition, the wrong regime, a calculation error or time pressure. Then choose a targeted response. Relearn a misunderstood definition, compare similar conditions side by side, or redo a calculation from a blank page.

Use the mixed paper after reviewing the primary papers, while remembering that some questions will be familiar. A higher mixed-paper score can reflect memory as well as improved understanding. Returning later to the rule and explaining why the other answers fail gives a better diagnostic than repeating the same choices immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

1 Is the ICAI UAE Corporate Tax course about Indian tax?

The subject is UAE Corporate Tax, with international taxation and transfer pricing. ICAI is the Indian professional body providing the source course; that does not make the material an Indian domestic-tax syllabus.

2 Who is eligible for the official ICAI course assessment?

The retained course details require CA Final completion and an ICAI membership number. Official training, attendance and an eligibility certificate are separate requirements; check your batch notice with ICAI.

3 Where do candidates take the official assessment?

The retained ICAI guidance describes an online assessment through its Digital Learning Hub (DLH). Your sitting notice controls current registration arrangements, technical requirements and instructions.

4 Does a preparation purchase include the ICAI certificate?

No. Exams Academy provides independent preparation. It does not register you with ICAI, satisfy official training attendance or award the ICAI Certificate Course certificate.

5 How many practice questions does Exams Academy include?

There are 375 practice questions across five mock exams. The four primary papers contain 300 original questions, and the fifth is a balanced mixed sample from those papers.
